Socratic Summer Academy provides elite individual and small group tutoring for students in any high school and many college subjects! We’re smaller, so we can focus on each student’s individual needs and meet them where they are. We’re also particularly good at help with essays, time management, organization, and helping develop study habits - essential skills students carry forever. With our years and years of experience teaching the SAT as well as training instructors in the most recent, evidence-based strategies for efficient teaching, our tutoring is the highest quality you can find!
Who are our tutors?
Socratic Summer Academy teachers and full-time staff - including our Executive Director Alyssa Bowlby and Assistant Camp Director Allison Pyo - tutor during the school year. They are a palette of experts that can handle any subject you might need.
Our staff is highly trained and constantly up-to-date on evidence-based strategies for effective teaching and retention for the most elite prep!
Do you give homework?
We believe firmly in the importance of homework - students need to engage with the material on their own so that when they come back to us, they have actionable questions and insight based on their own difficulties. That cycle promotes the growth of critical thinking skills.
Where are the sessions held?
Right now, all tutoring takes place via Zoom (an online video chat platform, similar to Skype).
How long are tutoring sessions?
That's up to you: We specialize in micro-sessions, which can be 30- to 45-minute sessions in which we meet more often and with a more targeted approach, so students have time to do work between sessions.
Increasing the frequency of sessions allows us to "keep the paintbrush wet" - students, instead of putting the topic out of their minds between weekly tutoring sessions, continue thinking about the subject over a more distributed period of time. Students also get immediate answers to questions they had about homework or get to bring up a piece of insight they had while reading the assigned novel - while those questions are still relevant and those thoughts are still fresh.

How are sessions billed?
You can either purchase a package of hours (where you save money by buying more hours in a package) or bill by the hour.
$250/hour when purchased by the hour
5 hours for $1185; save $75!
10 hours for $2250; save $250!
20 hours for $4300; save $700!
